LABUkraine's mission is to improve the lives of children in orphanages and underpriviledged areas to provide them with a bright future and to support Ukraine's rapidly developing technology sector. There are over 100,000 orphans in Ukraine with only 500 orphanages. According to atwakids.org, 60% of the girls who age out of these orphanages become prostitutes and 70% of the boys become criminals. With no future in sight, it is difficult for these children to have hope. LABUkraine seeks to provide this hope by giving them the tools and instruction necessary to lead successful productive lives.Ukraine has been moving painstakingly slowly to the West but has been met with numerous barriers. From the denial of participation in NATO to the recent invasion of Crimea by Russia, to the Orange Revolution, Ukraine has been rocked with political and social upheaval. Nonetheless, Ukraine’s technology sector has been growing at an exponential rate, and jobs are being created. LABUkraine believes in making the Ukrainian orphans lives better by connecting them with technology and STEM careers so that they have the education to obtain sustainable careers in a growing sector of the Ukrainian economy.
